Design approach
Japanese imagery, composed for your body
Japanese tattoo design is more than a list of motifs. Scale, direction, season, background, and body placement work together. A dragon wrapping an upper arm needs a different composition from a small hannya mask at the ankle, even when the subject is similar.
At consultation, we clarify the motif, mood, color, placement, and size before translating the idea into a custom composition. You can bring references, but the final drawing is adapted for the body rather than copied as a flat image.
Technique note: Evis Ink Tokyo performs Japanese-style tattoos with modern electric tattoo machines. We do not offer tebori, the traditional hand-poked tattooing method. Our guide to wabori and tebori explains the terminology, but it does not describe a service offered at this studio.

For a short visit, send your motif and placement references before arrival. Small pieces can fit a tight schedule, while larger Japanese compositions need more design time and may require multiple sessions. Avoid booking hot springs, swimming, or intense sun exposure immediately after the appointment.

Does Evis Ink Tokyo offer tebori?
No. We create Japanese-style and irezumi-inspired tattoos with modern electric tattoo machines. We do not offer traditional hand-poked tebori.
Can I book a small Japanese motif instead of a full sleeve?
Yes. One-point masks, flowers, waves, koi, and other compact Japanese motifs can be designed as small or medium standalone pieces.
How much is a Japanese tattoo in Tokyo?
The current Mini estimate is ¥15,000 and the size guide rises from there. These are not flat rates: detail, placement, and multi-session planning affect the final quote.
Can an international visitor book in English?
Yes. Booking, design notes, consultation, and aftercare can be handled in English. Include your Tokyo dates when you contact us.
